This week I would like you to work with the idea of making 'portraits' without the inclusion of the people themselves.
This could be taken in a variety of ways: personal spaces, work spaces, personal belongings (contents of bags, contents of pockets, shoes, most prized possessions etc).
Think carefully about how you will style these images - or will you be aiming for a more random look like Wolfgang Tillmans?
Remember the photographer Sophie Calle, who followed a man for 2 weeks on a journey to Venice, taking images of the places he had inhabited: hotel room, train compartment, bathroom etc. She also took a job in a hotel as a chamber maid, photographing the rooms as people left them during the day along with the traces of their existence.
There are many solutions to this brief and you should explore more than one - I want to see your experimentation, plus a final set of 5 prints. You may shoot in colour and / or B/W, film and / or digital. Remember your complete Unit 1 must contain a minimum of 3 rolls of film.
Film cameras will be available to borrow on Monday.
Good luck!
