Identity - Unit 1

Week 1
In your journals, mindmap some ideas on the theme of Identity. We looked at a powerpoint that demonstrated the diversity of existing responses to this broad topic. It would be a good idea to research some of these photographers to help inspire you: Gillian Wearing, Sophie Calle, Duane Michals, Martin Parr, Juergen Teller, Wolfgang Tillmans, Cindy Sherman, Diane Arbus, Sally Mann, Yinka Shonibare, Jeff Wall, Henri Cartier Bresson, David Goldblatt, Tina Barney, Nick Dawe & Bill Brandt.
There are obviously many more... the handout I gave you will help you find other examples.
Start to collect inspiring imagery and pack those journals full of ideas!

Task 1
Create a set of 5 portraits.
Look at how other photographers create 'sets' of images. The images will need to have something that makes them work together: this could be in the styling, the lighting, the backgrounds / locations, the format, the use of depth of field etc.
You will shoot digitally using colour or black & white.
You will probably need to shoot way more than 5 images to achieve your set of final prints. You may even need to do a test shoot. The prints need to be printed out ready to present to the group.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to our new blog...
This is a place where you can post images and information that you want to share with the rest of the group, plus any other invited guests. You can submit your own images and any found images that have inspired you, plus any relevant ramblings or words of wisdom. I will be updating the blog each week (more often if possible!).
I will also be using this space to post important info about the course, including material that I think may be of use to you in your projects - this saves me copying pages and pages of stuff, and it also means that you can't lose it! Ha!
Your submissions should be digital ie sent by email, or on a usb stick.
Let's make it look fab!
The more good stuff you add, the less likely you are to 'be a slug!'
